The Principal Cloud Architecture Engineer empowers development teams through the introduction, development and/or maintenance of efficient tools, processes and cloud based infrastructures. The Principal Cloud Architecture Engineer is responsible for building and maintaining the underlying PaaS systems that EVERFI’s products and services run on, with a focus on reliability, security and efficiency of engineering teams.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering is preferred
Certification as an AWS Solutions Architect, Cloud Security Certification, and/or other cloud-related certification a plus
5 years of professional experience developing web based applications, preferably using Ruby on Rails.
Extensive experience with SOA applications and cloud-based services, preferably AWS
Extensive experience working with Linux/UNIX and Docker containerized environments
Experience working with Kubernetes and Kafka
Extensive experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Chef, Ansible, Terraform and preferrably Cloud Formation
Extensive knowledge of web services, API, REST and RPC
Strong awareness of networking and internet protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP and distributed networks
Extensive database experience, including knowledge of SQL and NoSQL, and related data stores such as Postgres

Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to see and solve issues before they snowball into problems
Extensive experience with open-source technology, software development and system engineering
Excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to stay focused on completing tasks and meeting goals within a busy workspace
Strong leadership skills
Skilled at working in tandem with a team of engineers, or alone as required

Job Responsibilities:

Designing, building, maintaining and monitoring internal PaaS systems in the cloud, along with implementing the set-up of geographically redundant and highly available systems
Reviewing and approval of architectures of internal PaaS systems.
Working in tandem with our engineering teams to identify and implement the most optimal cloud-based solutions for the company.

Deployment and configuration of systems to production.
Provide oversight over other engineers work on the Cloud Architecture Team.
Providing support for complex issues to other engineering teams using our internal PaaS systems.
Participating in an on-call schedule to provide emergency incident support
Administrating cloud environments in accordance with company security guidelines
Designing, building and maintenance of utility tools and libraries to support services managed by other engineering teams
Using your extensive knowledge of web application architecture to design reliable, interoperable components to support EverFi’s applications
Design and implementation of metrics and monitoring systems for full stack visibility and incident response
Designing, maintaining and improving cloud deployment tools to keep CI/CD systems operating smoothly
Educating engineering teams on the operation of our cloud systems as well as best practices for reliability and performance in their applications
Mentor and train teammates on our cloud systems
Stay current with industry trends, making recommendations as needed to help the company excel
